Round 1: Wonder Woman vs. Captain America: Civil War

Two heroes who refuse to sacrifice the moral high ground or see the world as anything other than black and white.

Wonder Woman was a breath of fresh air for the superhero genre, mostly because it was the first female led superhero movie that was worth watching. The DC universe has gotten a lot of things wrong, but this was not one of them. Between Patty Jenkins and Gal Gadot, this film works on a lot of levels, but never pretends to be anything it isn’t.

Captain America: Civil War sees the Avengers torn apart by new legislation that regulates how and when superheroes can use their abilities. The film features fantastic performances from Chris Evans and Robert Downey Jr. as they battle one another. Keeping the focus on Captain America proves difficult, but the film does it well.

Wonder Woman is a big name in the hero community and the film lets her shine, while Captain America is forced to share screen time with more compelling characters and it threatens to hinder his own film. My choice to advance to the next round is…
