Guardians of the Galaxy was probably the biggest surprise of 2014. It follows a group of characters that weren’t well-known and very few people were in high anticipation of its arrival. But James Gunn proved that low expectations could work in his favor and he created on of the most charming superhero films of the Marvel universe.
Superman is basically the film that started it all. This was the first real superhero movie and it invokes such a sense of nostalgia, especially considering how many we have now. Christopher Reeve was basically the perfect actor to fill the dual role of Superman and Clark Kent and Richard Donner deserves credit for making this film so interesting.
A tough call to be sure, Guardians of the Galaxy features a phenomenal ensemble and has a lot of fan love, while Superman has faded slightly by the passage of time, despite having started it all. My choice to advance to the next round is…
