Dwayne Johnson is the biggest name in cinema. He has skyrocketed to superstardom over the past few years and shows no signs of slowing down. His latest exploit is Rampage, based on the classic video game from the 80s and 90s. The film tries to come up with a creative way to make the monsters realistic: genetic editing gone wrong. Three different animals are exposed to an experimental chemical compound that changes them into extremely aggressive and giant creatures. Johnson does what he does best as primatologist Davis Okoye who lays his life on the line to rescue George, an albino gorilla and his friend. The film features some poor CGI work and some less than stellar shots, but it doesn’t strive to be anything spectacular and it gives the audience what they want, giant monsters fighting each other.
Full of one-liners and a lot of exposition before getting to the good stuff, this one definitely gets fun at the end.
Furthering the career of Dwayne Johnson, this film may not be the best, but it certainly isn’t the worst, I give it…
