Summer romance is a staple of the film industry and has been used in every genre of film. Here it forms the basis for the relationship between two young men in Italy. The film follows Elio Perlman (Timothée Chalamet) a teen on the cusp of manhood whose father takes in a young archeology student called Oliver (Armie Hammer) to work with him over the summer. Elio finds himself drawn to Oliver and the two grow closer as the summer progresses and find love despite fear of social repercussions. The best part of this film is Chalamet, who gives one of the finest performances of the year and puts himself on the watchlist for the future. The way that the drama of this film unfolds makes for a beautiful coming-of-age story.
Fearless in its portrayal of young romance, this film is a winner.
A lovely film that brings heart to the Italian countryside and shows what true love looks like, I give it…
