Arguably one of the feelgood movies of the last decade, The Martian is a story of survival done in a completely unique way. The story follows astronaut Mark Watney (Matt Damon) who is left behind on Mars after a storm forces the crew to abandon the planet. What makes this film so great is all of the creativity that Watney uses to survive on the planet and how accurate the science is, for the most part. Ridley Scott has an affinity for isolated protagonists and space movies and this film combines both. The film is well shot and features a lot of awesome shots and creates a beautiful Martian landscape. The supporting cast also deserves a shout out, especially Jessica Chastain, Chiwetel Ejiofor, and Jeff Daniels, all of whom play different sides to the struggle to see Watney returned home.
Easily one of the best films of 2015 and probably the last decade, this one will warm even the coldest heart.
A great film, and surprisingly true to its source material, I give this film…
