This true story is one that absolutely needed to be told, but it is a painful tale. Spotlight follows the Spotlight team of the Boston Globe who investigated the case of a priest molesting a child and uncovered a massive conspiracy of priests who have taken advantage of children for decades. The film addresses who knew about the abuse and whether or not it was covered up. The subject matter makes this film something dangerous, but the performances make up for the sensitive topic. Mark Ruffalo, Michael Keaton, and Rachel McAdams lead the cast the intrepid Spotlight reporters, but my award for supporting performance goes to Stanley Tucci whose over-the-top character study of the crazy lawyer who represents the dozens of victims who have come forward.
Not exactly a feelgood film, but the payoff is worth it in the end.
A great ensemble movie that earned a ton of awards and from me it receives…
4.5 out of 5
