Max Rockatansky is an iconic character in the action genre. Originally played by Mel Gibson, the iconic character is reimagined here and is played by the equally impressive Tom Hardy. Rebooting a classic franchise is almost never a good idea, the benefit of doing it here is that it has the original director, George Miller. The film follows Max as he helps a group of women led by Furiosa (Charlize Theron) who are escaping from their sadistic husband Immortan Joe (Hugh Keays-Byrne). The film goes on a high-octane joyride for pretty much the entirety of its two hours. Hardy and Theron give fantastic performances, both reserving their emotions in favor of playing hardened warriors in Miller’s bleak world. It is this connection that makes them a great duo and so compelling to watch.
Kudos to Miller for introducing his iconic character to a new generation in such a thrilling fashion.
This film flew by and left me wanting more pretty much immediately, so I award it…
