There is a certain nostalgia attached to all Robin Williams films. The number of lives affected by him is innumerable and each film he made was unique, none more so than Jumanji. But as with all films, there has come the inevitable moment where Hollywood has felt compelled to make a sequel to a film that could probably have endured untouched. This version follows four teenagers who are sucked into a video game version of Jumanji and become avatars that resemble Dwayne Johnson, Kevin Hart, Jack Black, and Karen Gillan. I was skeptical going in to this film, but I can safely say that, while completely unnecessary, it wasn’t that bad. Johnson gives a particularly entertaining performance and both Jack Black and Karen Gillan were surprisingly funny. The only actor who I felt was weak was Kevin Hart, whose purpose doesn’t extend beyond yelling and complaining.
A much lighter and more action-packed take than the original, but definitely enjoyable.
This fresh spin honored the original pretty well and deserves a respectable…
