There is something interesting about sociopaths. I can’t say that they are compelling or entertaining, but there is something curious about them. Lady Macbeth follows a repressed wife who begins a torrid affair that ultimately turns to murder when it is discovered. Florence Pugh plays the adulterous wife who finds herself struggling with her murderous impulse to protect her secrets. This film is full of dark twists, and each moment makes the audience wonder if they would go as far to secure a life with the person they love. The answer should probably be no, but there is nothing interesting about a sociopath who curbs their desires. This film puts a young woman into a situation and gives her a dozen ways out, but she never sees any other way except to kill.
A dark little drama with the undertones of a thriller, it’s not for everyone.
