Dunkirk – 2017

Christopher Nolan has proven time and again that he is one of the best working directors today. His latest effort demonstrates exactly how talented he is; Dunkirk is a war movie that goes above and beyond. The film focuses on three different aspects of the evacuation of Dunkirk during WWII: the land, the sea, and the air. Nolan uses a unique technique to tell the story, blending together three pieces that are told in different time frames and over different days. The other important storytelling technique that he uses is an absence of dialogue. Nolan has never shied away from intelligent conversation, but here he says more with his score than any dialogue could. Featuring a fantastic mix of new faces and established actor, to create a realistic relationship between young soldiers and their elder leaders.

Not just a great war film, but a fantastic film in general, this is a must-see of 2017.

Enjoyable in a cathartic way, this one goes above and beyond Nolan’s previous ventures and earns…

4.5 out of 5
