There is a certain danger to sequels. There is even more danger in the second film of a trilogy. The weight distribution is always uneven since the first movies sets up the dominoes and the last movie knocks them down, there is often a mystery in the purpose of the middle part. In The Last Jedi, the characters of the Star Wars universe find themselves confronted by the villainous First Order and their fight for the freedom of the galaxy hits a serious snag. Without saying too much, I will say that this film handled the unanswerable question of a middle film’s purpose pretty well and found new and inventive ways to explore these characters without wasting too much time or doing too little. Rian Johnson channeled the Force and maintained the balance of a series that has wavered very little in recent years.
Great to see Luke Skywalker in action again and it felt good to get some answers from him.
All Star Wars are near and dear to my heart and this one is no different, so I give it…
