The Witch – 2015

Colonial America was a vert frightening time, even without the threat of witches. This film takes the fear of life in the unknown and amplifies it with folktales and stories about a witch who steals children. Unbeknownst to the family in this film, these stories turn out to be completely true. It’s only when the children start to disappear that the family starts to realize that something very real is happening to them. Newcomer Robert Eggers creates a frightening environment and offers the actors, including Anya Taylor-Joy, a dark world to rail against. It might be blasphemous to say, but I am not the biggest Lovecraft fan, but the elements of his books incorporated into the film make it into something truly remarkable.

Solid film, with frightening moments and a real sense of dread.

Five kids in the film, I’ll rank this one based on the number of creepy ones…

3 out of 5
