The Lion King – 1995

This month I will be watching the top animated films. I have chosen to start with the Lion King. There isn’t much that needs to be said for this one. Shakespeare would be proud of this adaptation of Hamlet, which takes certain liberties with his play (such as all the characters being animals). The reason this film is an enduring classic is because it builds in exactly the right way. The film take a simple father-son relationship and put it through the ringer until the son finds himself confronted by his father’s memory. The pain and regret he feels sends him on a journey of redemption that eventually twists into revenge. It takes the natural steps to the end of the story, but makes the journey so much fun and so heart-warming that it doesn’t matter how predictable it is, it’s worth every second.

If you’ve made it this far in life without having seen this film, remedy that as soon as possible. It’s worth it.

I don’t need to say anything about this one…
