Two truly impressive villains competing to ensure their legacies.
Spider-Man 2 features the return of Tobey Maguire as Spider-Man, but the beauty of this film lies in its focus. The struggle of a superhero to maintain his/her double life is a trademark of the genre, and this film plays it out perfectly. Plus, Alfred Molina is perfect as the villain who is so sympathetic that its hard not to root for him.
X2 is the sequel to the surprisingly smart X-Men and this one ups the ante by introducing a villain with almost no redeeming qualities. Brian Cox is truly compelling as William Stryker and his mission to reunite with and destroy his ‘creation’, Wolverine, make for a great film. Not to mention Nightcrawler in the White House, which is amazing.
One villain on a quest for redemption and another who is literally just out to kill mutants, but both play out fantastically, this is a tough call. My choice to advance to the next round is…
