One was an unlikely property to find success, while the other was a much awaited team-up.
Hellboy comes from the mind of Guillermo del Toro, whose take on this fantastical comic book translated surprisingly well to the big screen. Ron Perlman plays the title character and gets completely into the role as the grizzled demon. The film has a lot of unique characters and thanks to del Toro it worked well when assembled.
The Avengers is the team-up movie that everyone was waiting for. Four years worth of work by Marvel resulted in this film which featured six of their biggest characters. Led by the always charismatic Robert Downey Jr., this film has the perfect balance of action and fun, while remaining completely true to the characters in the film.
Hellboy is something refreshing in a world of morally superior superheroes, while The Avengers gave the world proof that crossovers could work. My choice to advance to the next round is…
