Undoubtedly the greatest epic fantasy film of all time. The Lord of the Rings is the brainchild of J.R.R. Tolkien and it is brought to life here by Peter Jackson. The film follows a Hobbit named Frodo Baggins who is charged with the task of destroying the most dangerous tool in all of Middle Earth. There are a lot of things that work well in this film, but one of the most significant successes is the cast. To name a few, Elijah Wood, Viggo Mortensen, Sean Astin, and Ian McKellen all shine in their roles. The entire ensemble works tremendously well together and Jackson does a great job of giving each actor enough room to work within his/her character and take ownership of the role. Another thing that works tremendously well is the story. Jackson took a few liberties with the story, but overall it follows Tolkien’s series extremely well and Jackson’s vision plays out extremely well.
One of the greatest films of all time, and while it might masquerade as a trilogy, it is one coherent story and it never falters.
An all-time favorite film of mine, this one holds a special place for me and it earns…
