I’d like to describe this movie as unexpected, sadly I can’t do that. This reboot of the dismal Angelina Jolie film plays out exactly as expected, like levels of a video game. Lara Croft (Alicia Vikander) investigates the death of her father and finds herself in a quest to stop a shadowy organization from uncovering a secret on a hidden island. The film doesn’t offer much in the way of newness, but it’s thrills make up for the lack of originality. The stunts are impressive, if a little impossible, and Vikander does a perfectly fine job of making Lara Croft interesting, despite the simplicity of the plot. This film did a lot of good world building and has the potential to set up for a much more interesting series.
Nothing special, but a good film to watch if you want a little adventure and a little girl power.
Indiana Jones meets National Treasure, but not nearly as charming as the former, I give it…
