Brokeback Mountain was one of the most controversial films of the 2000s and it had a massive effect on the acceptance of the gay community. But I’m not going to call this film a gay love story. This film is just a love story. Two men fall in love, but to call either of them gay would be wrong, maybe they were and maybe they weren’t. Two men were in love with each other and that’s all there is to it. They meet while herding sheep one summer and they begin a relationship that lasts for twenty years. Their love crosses states and decades, but they are kept apart by their own stubbornness and the lives that they feel obligated to maintain. Ang Lee takes raw emotion and love and transfers into one of the most tragic and wonderful films of the past twenty years.
Controversial and still arguably robbed of an Academy Award for its subject matter.
No matter what people think of this one, this is one of my favorite films and it earns…
5 out of 5
