Nightcrawler sounds like it is a movie about a gaunt man who invades people’s lives and generally acts creepy. In this case, the title proves completely accurate. Jake Gyllenhaal gives the performance of his career as Lou Bloom a broke criminal who becomes obsessed with filming violent crimes and selling the footage to a local news station. The film edges deeper and deeper into the dark world of Bloom and his obsession with filming the tragedy of humanity quickly turns into more as his own dark desires begin to surface. The film offers very little black and white in Bloom’s world and everything is just shades of gray and a lot of moral ambiguity, but it is here that this character is truly at home and truly worth witnessing.
Great film, but might not want to rewatch it immediately.
It hasn’t motivated me to become a nightcrawler, but it still earns a respectable…
