It’s a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World – 1963

When Stanley Kramer drove a thief into the desert and let him flip his car and die, he started a chain reaction of destruction that created a hilarious romp with unforseen consequences. The film takes the idea of buried treasure and modernizes it by having a thief hide treasure and he reveals the location to four sets of strangers before perishing. The strangers try to be reasonable, but they ultimately choose an every man for himself approach that results in even more people trying to get in on the hunt. Though the film might seem like utter nonsense, at one point the three stooges pop up, it is really a commentary on how easily human being descend into selfish behavior, with a detective even plotting to get involved.

A masterpiece of the human experience, this film was a little long, but still quite enjoyable.
