There is no argument that Tom Cruise is a good actor. He isn’t the most likeable guy, but his talent is clear. Jerry Maguire is a feelgood movie about a sports agent who suffers a crisis of conscience. There is a lot to love about this film: the dialogue, the romance, the unchecked ego, but none of it compares to the bromance between Cruise and Cuba Gooding Jr., who plays Maguire’s singular client. Buddy movies are always hit or miss, but the brutal honesty shared by these two characters takes an obviously plotted film and turns it into a great film. Plus the ‘Show me the money’ scene is always good for a laugh.
Not a bad way to spend a couple hours, definitely one of Tom Cruise’s finer works.
