Motion-capture technology has come a long way in a short amount of time and no one has been more involved than Andy Serkis. By the time a franchise has reached its third film, the premise might seem a little stale, but this is not the case with the new Planet of the Apes. Each film has offered up something new to the franchise and each time Serkis has poured his heart and soul into the role. This film revolves around increased tension between the human race and the apes who are blamed for their downfall. Woody Harrelson co-stars as the enigmatic Colonel behind the human military and the enemy of Caesar following several murderous raids against Caesar’s people. The effects here are played to the right effect and give the film a realistic taste thanks mostly to Serkis’ performance.
A worthy follow-up in a franchise built on animosity with another intelligent species.
